Floriade 2009 rejuvenated visitors with a stunning festival that  featured more than one million blooms and fantastic entertainment depicting a Mind, Body and Soul theme.

From 12 September to 11 October people enjoyed uplifting entertainment; sampled regional food and wine; learned from informative workshops and educational demonstrations and walked amongst magnificent garden bed displays in the heart of the nation’s capital.

There was daily live entertainment throughout the park with a series of lunchtime concerts presented by the ANU School of Music, street performers and visual theatre, comedy acts, dance and spectacular  fire eating feats. There was also a special guest performance from soul songstress Marcia Hines.

We had a giant 35 metre ferris wheel which offered spectacular views of Floriade and beyond. The garden bed designs were visible from the dizzying heights, showcasing clouds, ocean waves, a giant chess board, an eye, the elixir of life and the feast of colour was presented beautifully from the best seat in the house.

We activated people to invigorate their body and explore the world of sport at the Australian Sports Commission marquee. They presented latest tips for coaching, saw a nutritionist cook up a storm and found out the secrets behind talent identification. Plus, anyone was able to meet Australian Institute of Sport athletes, coaches and scientific experts.
Families also loved the popular Patting Paddock and children got to meet their favourite farm animal.

Others explored their creative side and saw top Interflora designers going head to head with their wonderful floral artistry creations in a national competition. Floriade presented a wealth of displays from a giant citrus guitar to spectacular Australian flower display. There were great ideas for inspiration to upgrade any garden from the showcase gardens competition.

Stay tuned for more on the 2010 theme.
